Why should we all use our creative power . . .? Because there is nothing that makes people so generous, joyful, lively, bold and compassionate, so indifferent to fighting and the accumulation of objects and money.
Brenda Ueland
This is a very early quote in the margin of Julia Cameron's book, The Artist Way. It is one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite books of all time. As a Recess Girl, I'm most interested in how creativity and play are related. The support and encourage each other. They are partners in the Recess life.
Every time I pick up a Julia Cameron book, I feel as if I'm holding a treasure and indeed I am. It is full of wisdom, quotes and work that will lead you as the subtitle says down "a spiritual path to higher creativity".
This book will show you how we are all meant to be creative and how to tap into that creativity. It has so much information on what keeps us blocked and how we can get unblocked. It is not just about being and artist - it is about being a creative, spiritual, connected human being. This book changed my life and now I'm ready to take it to the next level and I invite you to join me on the journey.
I want to begin to reexplore this wonderful book that came out over fifteen years ago and then move on to her subsequent books. It is sort of a back to basics for me. While I've managed to do Julia's suggested morning pages for 15 years (and they are in deed my most devoted and regular spiritual practice), I've never managed to keep up with the artist date. So I go back and reread. Recess and creativity are so intertwined for me that I want to make more time to integrate these great principles into my life. So I invite you to do the same. Pour a glass of wine or tea or any favorite beverage, sit in your favorite chair and lets take a trip with one of my favorite and most beloved authors. Read the introduction, the spiritual tools and Week 1. I will offer some comments and will be glad to offer some blog coaching to anyone who cares to comment on anything they have questions about or challenges around.
